Uhm, well... Can I copy your text (I'll put a link to this page) in my blog ?
The drawing is really cute, it looks like it has a texture!
The composition is so simple, and yet that is such a strength here.
The text that you wrote or chose is quite wonderful.
The combination of the text and image, makes me feel like people's flaws are unique markers, on their body. I don't so much think of the drawing/tattoo, as the flaw, but a symbol for imperfections. I have heard people say, one of my boobs is bigger than the other, or they do not like their face because of ______ feature, or they wish they were skinnier, or they wish they had another eye color, or different type or color of hair.
So, I feel like the piece says, be who you are, you don't have enough time on earth to wish you were different your whole life.
I identify with that not so much for guys, but girls. Magazines, movies, and other media, suggest what the perfect model is to look like. And it is often false. They have professional makeup artists, people who are experts at making them fit the "beautiful mold". Then there is photo retouching (Photoshop), to get rid of that mole, that wrinkle, that tiny scar on your face, from the time you cut yourself as a child in a bicycle accident.
For guys, I personally feel that there is much less pressure to have a certain "look", but the pressures for guys are to fit in the social crowd at a young age, often forsaking the real you, to be part of the group. And as boys turn into young men, they are taught not to cry, to be tough, to be strong, not to be emotional, that they must be powerful in earthly symbols to be attractive to the opposite sex, or again, just to fit in: the right house/apt, a nice car (in US anyway), a really good job, have lots of money.
Not all these things are bad things. All I am saying is there is tremendous pressure to fit in, be like others, be perfect, show no weaknesses, show no flaws.
Your work made me think of all these things. I have thought them before, of course, but like many good artworks, it can remind you of truths and issues. In this case, I find your message to be uplifting, and accepting. That is refreshing.
And for the record, I have always liked people who are a bit different. Maybe shy, maybe people who don't fit in, people who are not worried about how the world thinks they should act, be, or appear.
Nice work, lydy!
